EarthCandy Designs is all about re-useing, re-purposeing and re-claiming – you could say I like to “re” a lot.

So what’s up with the name?

Like everything I collect there is a story behind it.

A dear friend of mine was at one of the lowest point of her life. Like many of the great American philosophers of our past, she decided take a long walk in the woods to clear her mind and find a little bit of peace in this crazy world we live in. Afterwards, she gave me a call and regaled me her story.  It had just rained and as she walked through the woods, nature seemed to be alive.  The air was sopping rich with vivacity.  The world seemed to be awakening around her.  Then she said a phrase that stuck with me.  “It smelt like earth candy outside.” Of all the ways you could have said it, it was this simple phrase that captured the moment perfectly for me.

Earth Candy, to me, represents the simple things in life: nature, the earth, the little things we over look.   That simple walk in the woods and smelling the “earth candy” is really what’s important in life.  That’s what we should remember and what the substance of life is about – the richness of life, the “earth candy.”
